Please correct me if I'm wrong but I understand "Skeptics" as being all those who believe that ONLY That which has thus far been "proven", to be acceptable, to have relevance.

My understanding and view of "skeptics" organisations is that

1) they wish to hold on to the tried and true.

More than this, (this is my critisism of organisations such as this).
2).They wish to IMPOSE their beliefs on the public
. They wish to insist that we cling on to the Tried and True

We didn't have a meetup last month, lets get things kick started again. Meetup next Saturday (May 12th), 2:30 at The Bank on Vic st, we'll be out the back or near it.

What is it supposed to do, and will it achieve what it is intended to?

The end of the 5,125 year cycle of the Mayan Calender is approaching.

The idea that this heralds great change is a popular one among Conspiracy Theorists, New Agers and UFO believers, although what exactly this change will be is not certain.

Some claim it means the world will end, due to solar activity, or a planet crashing into the earth.

Some, that mankind will become more spiritually evolved.

Our second meetup in scheduled for Saturday December 3rd, 2:30pm at The Bank on Victoria Street. We'll probably be sitting out the back.

For our second meetup we thought we'd try a loose theme, so we'll be peering into the misty realm of the future and the great beyond. Psychics and Clairvoyants of all shapes and sizes will be the topic of the day, please bring along any info or stories of personal experiences.

Any progress on a venue?

So, it looks like there's at least one carload heading from Wellington to Hamilton for the first meetup. There may even be one from Auckland. Now to see how many more we can get...

Do we want to have a theme for the first meetup? This could influence other aspects of the gathering. Speaker, quiz etc.

Just looking at the calendar, could I suggest a Friday meetup for the first event? The trip there and back is quite a way so managing one during the week would be impractical for me.

I'm looking at driving up to AK for one of their meet ups but I'd love to go to something a bit closer to home.
Anyone else out there be keen?
