Plans for 2010
I'm not a big fan of New Year Resolutions. They tend to be things that you never get around to until it's too late and at that point... well... it's too late.
So instead, I'm getting a few goals. Some are personal, others aren't and some are aimed firmly at NZ Skeptics in the Pub.
I'm aiming for a new NZSitP group at least one per quarter. I'll admit it up front, I'm biased towards locations that I can handily travel too. I've made it to every First Meeting so far and would like to maintain that record. :) We have interest from Nelson and Palmy so far. I'll put the word out for those posts on the mail lists and facebook/twitter. Let's see if we can't get the numbers to rise a little. Nelson is closer, but I've never been to Palmy so there's pluses for both locations.
The second thing I want to start promoting is Skepticamps (no camping involved). These are basically one day events where we gather and talk. Everyone talks. Talks are 5-15 minutes each and questions are allowed during and after the talk. I was thinking that these could be combined with something like Skeptics in the Park to make it something of a family friendly event.
The final thing that I'm wanting to do is ensure that the Christchurch SitP gatherings have at least one speaker each month. To assist with this I'm going to add a "Speaker" content type to the site. People will be able to use Create Content > Speaker to suggest a speaker, provide contact details, describe their area of interest and show their city/town. This should give us the ability to manage and schedule these a lot easier. Having one central location where we can see potential and confirmed speakers should help a lot. I'll post the first one shortly after this goes out. I'm sure there's more in my e-mail somewhere but I'm having trouble finding them now. Another reason I decided to set this up...
The Speaker Content Type is for everyone to use, not just Christchurch. I suspect that goes without saying, but I like to say it anyway. Just so there's no misunderstandings.
I think that about covers it for the moment. Thanks for taking the time to read this far.
Hope you had a great Gravmas and happy New Year.
Gold.
