NZ Skeptics Conference 2009 AGM

The AGM of the NZ Skeptics Inc was held at the NZ Skeptics Conference 2009.

As with most AGM's this was fairly dry, procedural stuff. There were two things that are worthy of reporting on however.

The NZ Skeptics Conference 2010 is being held in Auckland. We're currently negotiating for James Randi, Phil Plait, Tim Minchin, Richard Dawkins, Richard Saunders and George Hrab among others, to be possible guest speakers. Even if we can get just a few of these people it will make for a great event.

The other point of order that absolutely blew me away was that the NZ Skeptics offered to donate funds to the NZ Skeptics in the Pub to cover costs and to expand our reach. I had been asked about this prior to the meeting and the number of $300 was mentioned. I was very pleased with this amount. When it was mentioned at the meeting though it was raised to $1000 on the spot, seconded and passed unanimously.

The NZ Skeptics in the Pub has funding to grow.

The only real cost is the subscription to Meetup.com which provides the tools for managing the gatherings, RSVPs and finding others in the local area. This has proven an invaluable tool. It's major drawback for me was that the default subscription only allowed the subscriber to manage 3 groups. This funding will allow us to manage pretty much as many as we like.

Kudos to the NZ Skeptics Inc.
